Paving & Cladding

Choose a base design

There are three basic designs for a monument's base. Those being: solid, waterproof and chiptop. Though the differences between them are subtle, they can appear quiet dramatic when the right choices of finish and selection of granites are made.

Variations of the bases range from a simple tapered treatment to the slab stone to the subsequent additions of rounds to it's corner edges, resulting in a full round base where each adjacent face is joined by a radius.

Solid Base

A solid base is defined by the use of a smaller slab so that the kerbs are exposed to create a multi-tiered effect.

Waterproof Base

The waterproof is virtually identical to the solid except that it's slab is oversized creating a small overhang around the top of the kerbs.

Chiptop Base

The chiptop is identical to the both the solid and waterproof bases, but is minus the slab. In it's place the cavity is usually filled with either contrasting screenings or it is filled with soil and then planted.

Front Stone Variations

Frontstone treatments add another level of individuality to a bases appearance. From the simple addition of a name splay to the front of the slab or upper edge of the frontstone to the addition of a lockable enclosure with side or centre stepbacks, the frontstone has the ability to make a memorial distinct.
